Sadie's Dance Question for boys?

So my school's Sadie's dance is this Friday and my best friend in the whole entire world dared me to ask the boy i like to it. I'm in 8th grade and he's in 9th grade, my school is 7th-9th grade by the way. so i was just wondering, do boys really like girls that "make the first move" like tv says they do, i'm a girl so i wouldn't know.
