How Liberal is Canada when it comes to LGBT?

I know Canada is quiet nice when it comes to gay rights, but i want to know, for example if a gay couple start to kiss and hold hands will they get beaten up and reported to the police like in the USA? i mean Machusetts is also liberal with gay issues but people still get beaten up my dumb a.ss bigots, so whats it like there in Canada?
