When religious people are approached from a scientific standpoint in an effort to provide answers?

to the genesis of our existence - It seems that many don't either understand or don't trust the science of our time. For example, when it comes to the science of police work or archaeological exploration in terms of dna testing, carbon and radioactive dating - science is used in this regard to convict someone, solve a crime or date past events- how are these processes any different then the science of proving the genesis of our existence. And since the science in these areas is widely excepted in the general population - DO you not trust this science and why?
