Ipod Touch 1st gen help!?

Okay for some reason I can't download new apps from the app store and whenever I try to boot up the app store a message comes up (saying "Cannot retrieve download information. Please connect with itunes.") And when I tru to download a new app after ignoring the message another message pops up (Cannot connect to store A secure connection could not be established. Please chck your date & Time settings.") HELP!
