Are we seriously on the brink of economic collapse on a world wide level?

We were in danger of a collapse of the financial system a year ago which would have cause severe disruption of the economy in most countries, but the labor and resources would still exist so we would have recovered in time. Historically economies collapsed when there is a fundamental problems in in the real economy like rainfall patterns shifting or depletion of the resources that are needed.
